What is the most dangerous type of asbestos?

Out of the six types of asbestos, chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, anthophyllite, tremolite, and actinolite, chrysotile and crocidolite are the most dangerous forms.
Chrysotile is a common type of asbestos found within the Earth. It is also one of the dangerous types of asbestos. Chrysotile asbestos has long, curly, and white fibres. It accounts for almost 90% of commercially-used asbestos in the world and can be found in ceilings, roofs, floors, and insulations.
Crocidolite is the most hazardous asbestos material because of its physical characteristics. It is a sodium, iron, magnesium silicate and occurs in the form of straight, blue fibres. This Blue Asbestos can be primarily found in cement products, tiles, and insulations.

The three most common forms of asbestos found are: Chrysotile, Amosite, and Crocidolite. Each type of asbestos has its own unique set of risks and health hazards.

  • Chrysotile asbestos is the most common type of asbestos and accounts for almost 90% of all asbestos used commercially. It has long, curly, white fibres and is often found in ceilings, roofs, floors, and insulations.
  • Amosite asbestos is the second most common type of asbestos. It is a brown to black, amphibole mineral that is found in Africa. It is often used in insulation products.
  • Crocidolite asbestos is the most hazardous type of asbestos. It is a blue, amphibole mineral that can be found in Australia, Africa, and Brazil. Crocidolite asbestos is the most physically dangerous because of its straight, blue fibres.
